Halloween is a big deal in El Paso. A much bigger deal than in KY; not that we didn’t enjoy the events & fun of the season at home; but it takes on a life of it’s own here in the border country. For example, at home, Halloween is often cold and rainy but this year the temp was about 80 degrees. Great weather for trick or treating! Another different tradition is that the kids get out of school a 1/2 day for Halloween - that’s a little weird to me - but Emily loved it. Anyway - with another new experience under our belts, we enjoyed the sights and sounds of the spooky-holiday, watching the trick or treaters, and having fun passing out candy!

Here’s Emily and Jeff getting ready for the Trick-or-Treaters!

This picture is not really a “Halloween” picture, but we snapped Emily practicing with her new Pointe shoes!

Yes, the official results are in and Jeffrey Bruce passed the Bar exam! Of course, I knew there was never any doubt, but now that it’s official, I can claim my bragging rights as any good mother is expected to do! We’re very proud of you, Son and know this is just the beginning of great things in store for you!  So we’re sending via the wonders of technology our huge and gigantic Congratulations!!

Congratulations on passing the Bar!!

Guess who just turned 12!  Yep - Miss Emily had a birthday this week. It was a little weird to have a birthday without the family around and we sure missed having a porch party at Grannys but it didn’t turn out so bad. She even only had to go to school for 1/2 a day - what more could you ask for?? Here are some pics of her special day with Mom and Dad and Ollie Mo, the cat!

Emily Ballerina

Check out Emily’s talent show performance! She did a great job and even the technical difficulties didn’t slow her down.

Emily’s first day of Middle School! She’s a big 6th grader now and growing into such a lovely young lady. She only has 2 more weeks in Primary and then she will graduate to Young Women. She’s excited about turning 12, starting a new Middle School, and becoming an official YW. There’s also picture of Ollie Moe checking the new backpack. We had to break down and get a new backpack this year - seems Miss Em has outgrown Scooby Doo!

Robert and Mom both visited us here in El Paso a few weeks ago! Mom was bringing Emily back from her summer stay in KY and Robert decided to make the trip from the West Coast to see us all. It was such fun, although we haven’t really found many exciting things to do in El Paso yet. But it was good have Em home and visit with Mom and little brother!

Time to catch up on the boys! Seems these two little tots are growing so fast, I’m having a really hard time keeping up with their adventures and travels. Here’s a few cute pics of all the fun happening in and around Jersey City and in Nashville…and beyond!

This first picture is of Ethan’s trip to the beach on Labor Day. Just too much fun! He needed a little siesta!

Responses and comments on the world’s best fitting jeans blog contest has been most enlightening and introduced tons of good ideas and recommendations about finding a good pair of jeans. We’ve been on the good fitting jeans kick for about a year now and so we’re going to wind it up. Over the next few weeks put in your final votes!  While there are way too many brands and styles of jeans out there to compare; the purpose of this opinion poll is to identify the best all around jeans that you actually wear for comfort. The ones that you put on when you just want to be comfy and casual.

So put on your jean thinking caps on - I know you probably have a couple of  pair that you just can’t decide between - and cast your final votes!! Here are the current standings:

#1 Banana Republic

#2 Levi’s

#3 Lucky, Lee, Gap, Eddie Bauer, Tommy Hilfiger (Boyfriend cut), Wrangler, Express  - All in a 3-way tie!

So cast your final votes and let’s name the World’s best fitting jeans ever!!!!

Star Wars Battles 2

Here is a favorite song from my new friend Alex. All you Star War fans will love it!

An interesting thing happened last night at our house. My 11-year-old daughter and my almost 26-year-old  daughter went shopping together. The weird thing is that one of them lives in New Jersey and one lives in Texas. But nonetheless, they went shopping together and appearantly found some great bargins on sale at Limited Too! Now I heard Miss Em chattering on the phone to someone and just assumed it was Jen - they do that alot…talk, talk, talk, talk. I wasn’t paying any attention to the conversation at all and probabaly would have caught on much quicker had I listened more carefully.

After Jen and Em hung up, Jen called me or maybe Em gave me the phone, or maybe Jen was talking to her dad and he gave me the phone - totally besides the point. But I ended up talking to Jen and she told me she just bought Em some clothes.  Cool, I thought - hope they fit. Hope it’s something Em will wear to school - another thought. Boy you’re brave buying something for an 11-year old without their approval… the thoughts rambled on.

But you know, these girls are pretty smart. Who needs the mall to have a good time, to find a bargin, or to spend a little cash?? Not my girls - now that they’ve discovered the “Wish List” online! Seems all Emily had to do was go online to her favorite store and pick out some cute fashions. Jen was also online at the same time and checking out Emily’s outfits from her wish list. Together they made their selections and purchased with the help of a discount coupon! So the purchase was made in New Jersey, the coupon came from El Paso, Texas, and the outfits will be shipped to Winchester, KY! Now that’s just way too cool! Technology - keeping families together once again!

Update - Changed blog theme - need more space for pictures. Check back soon for beautiful shot of El Paso sunset. Need to upload again.

The above picture was a shot taken off the back porch in El Paso. We caught the sun just as it was creeping behind the mountains and creating catus shadows…just beautiful! Great shot, JB!

How do you know if your mother is reading your blog???? She sends you what you are craving the most! I came home from work the other day to a huge box full of double-bag Grippo’s - yes, the large bags - the largest you can get (that I know about).  My Mom, upon reading my blog took pity me in my state of Grippo depression and sent me a care package. It was wonderful!

So now, I am set for at least a few more weeks of the best bar-b-que chips ever. I have a few bags hidden at the office, a few bags hidden in the bedroom, and a bag in the kitchen and a bag in my briefcase. So I am totally covered for the time being!

Gee, this is great! Thanks, Mom!

I am addicted to Grippo bar-b-q potato chips! They are the best ever - just the right blend of hot and a mild sweetness. I can eat whole bags of these things in one sitting. When I was a teenager and driving myself to high school, I’d stop every morning at Babe’s and get a bag and an Ale8. For those of you who don’t about Babe’s - you’ve missed out on a classic. Babe’s is a ”Mayberry” type store located in a small community called Trapp. And if you don’t know about Ale8s, you’ve missed out on another classic - a KY home grown soft drink with lots of ginger and sugar. Delicious!

Anyway, back to the Grippo’s. My problem is that I can’t find them here in El Paso. I went into total depression - no Grippo’s! So a few weeks ago when we were in KY, my ever-so-smart husband brought me back several extra bags! And today - I’m down to my last bag. Now I can’t decide to open up the bag and devour it down or save it for a special occation. I kept the bag hidden (yes, I do hide food) in the bedroom for a few days and keep staring at it. It’s a beautiful sight - the red bag with black writing and the little Grippo dude holding a bag of chips. Just gazing at the bag brings a huge smile to my face. Isn’t it wierd how such little thigs can change your mood in an instant. Now I don’t know if I love these things so much because they are really that good or if I just miss home and they remind me of my home and so many wonderful memories. Either way - I’m still down to my last bag. What to do???

It’s a beautiful Saturday moring here in El Paso. It’s supposed to get up to 100 degrees today - like I said - a beautiful day. I’ve been dowloading MP3’s all night and here I sit in the floor in the middle of a sunbeam blazing through the window listening to Nickelback,  typing this post, and glaring at my last bag of Grippo’s. If I only had an Ale8, life would be almost perfect.

The chips win! I’m just going to sit here and listening to my music, basking in the sunshine and eat my Grippo’s! The laundry will just have to wait - the last bag of Grippo’s are calling!

This is a cute video of Ethan dancing to “If You’re Happy & You Know It”. Be warned - he makes up his own hand motions!
